GardenAble is creating an Accessible Community Allotment in York.
This was an idea from York People First, an advocacy group run by and for people with learning difficulties.
We are designing raised beds to suit individual gardener’s abilities, using permaculture principles.
In between the raised beds we want to plant lots of (mostly) edible sensory plants, such as soft fruit and herbs.
We already have several fruit trees, including some local ones.
Volunteers welcome, including volunteers with disabilities or support needs.
We’re part of Edible York which is nurturing existing food growing spaces and bringing new food growing spaces to life. Our vision is of a City in which communities are enabled to grow, eat and cook food through accessible edible gardens.
GardenAble is funded by UnLtd and is a member of the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens.
