Dig In!

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust has launched a new project to encourage local communities to grow their own food.

The Dig In project will transform ten pockets of land from City of York Council into community-led food growing spaces. In the first year we will work at sites in Tang Hall, Clifton and Acomb.

The Dig In project will be delivered over three years, supported by funding from The National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund.

The key aims of the project are to:

  • Engage people with the development and up-keep of the community led gardens·
  • Offer training opportunities·
  • Encourage long-term participation·
  • Improve people’s attitudes towards their local green spaces

As well as creating community gardens across the city, the project will also include regular clubs for children, open days for all, training for adults and young people and visits to local farms. There will also be opportunities for children and young people to get involved through school.
